Most vape coils last 1–2 weeks of moderate use. Heavy use, sweet e-liquids and high wattage push that down to about 4–7 days, while light use with simpler liquids can stretch a coil to 3–4 weeks — those are the ranges in Vaporesso’s own coil guide, and SMOK gives the same 1–2 week average. The clearest signs it’s time: a burnt or “off” taste, leaking or gurgling, and noticeably weaker flavor or vapor. Here’s how to tell when your coil is due, what shortens its life, and how to swap it in about five minutes.
Source context: Vape Shop AE stocks 141 replacement coils and pods across SMOK, Vaporesso, Uwell, Voopoo, GeekVape and other brands (catalogue count as of 10 September 2026). The lifespan figures on this page are manufacturer guidance, not our own puff-count tests, and the stock figures are our live catalogue counts. Product and brand links on this page go to our own store — we sell the coils this guide talks about.

What a Vape Coil Actually Does
A vape coil is the small heating element inside your device’s atomizer that turns e-liquid into vapor. It sits inside a wicking material — usually cotton — that soaks up e-liquid and feeds it to the coil.
When the coil heats up, it vaporizes whatever liquid the wick is holding. Over time, that wicking material gets saturated with residue and the metal coil itself degrades, which is why coils are a routine replacement part, not a one-time purchase.
How Long Do Vape Coils Last?
Most coils last 1–2 weeks of moderate use, but the real answer depends on how much you vape and what kind of coil is in your device.
Note that coils are not rated in puffs the way disposables are — manufacturers give coil life in days and weeks, and the only reliable gauge is taste and vapor.
Heavy Vapers vs. Occasional Vapers
If you vape frequently throughout the day, expect to replace your coil about every 4–7 days. Light or occasional vapers often get 3–4 weeks out of the same coil before flavor and vapor production noticeably drop off. Both figures are from Vaporesso’s guidance; Aspire’s guide puts light use at 2–3 weeks, so treat the upper end as a best case rather than a promise.
Why Mesh and Sub-Ohm Coils Wear Faster
Mesh coils and sub-ohm coils run at higher wattages and heat larger surface areas, so they burn through their wicking material faster than standard coils. Vaporesso rates its sub-ohm mesh coils at 4–10 days and its 0.6Ω RDL pods at 5–10 days, against 1–2 weeks for its 0.8–1.2Ω MTL (mouth-to-lung) coils and pods. Resistance (Ω) and wattage are different numbers: a lower-resistance coil is built for a higher wattage range, and running any coil above its printed range is what shortens its life, not the resistance itself. A concrete example from our shelves: the Uwell PA coil is rated 25–35 W in its 0.3Ω version but only 15–18 W in the 0.8Ω version — same coil family, different wattage window.
5 Signs Your Coil Needs Replacing
The five signs a coil needs replacing are a burnt or “off” taste, weaker vapor or flavor, gurgling or leaking, e-liquid darkening in the tank, and visible browning or charring on the coil. They are listed from most to least obvious.
1. Burnt or “Off” Taste
A harsh, scorched taste is the clearest sign. It happens when the wicking material has dried out faster than it can be resaturated — once you taste it, the coil won’t recover, even after refilling.
2. Weaker Vapor or Flavor
If clouds are noticeably thinner or the flavor tastes muted compared to when the coil was new, the coil’s heating element is starting to degrade.
3. Gurgling or Leaking
A gurgling sound or e-liquid leaking from the tank usually means the wicking material is over-saturated or the coil’s seal has broken down.
4. Darkened E-Liquid in the Tank
E-liquid that’s turned noticeably darker than its original color is a sign of coil residue building up, even if the taste hasn’t changed yet.
5. Visible Browning or Charring
If you can see the coil itself, direct browning or charring on the wire or wick is a definitive sign — replace it before vaping on it again.
What Shortens (or Extends) Coil Life
Four things decide how long a coil lasts: how sweet the e-liquid is, whether the wattage stays inside the coil’s rated range, how often you chain vape, and whether the coil was primed before its first puff.
- Juice type — sweeter, dessert-style e-liquids tend to gunk up a coil faster than simpler flavor profiles
- Wattage — running a coil above its rated wattage range burns through the wick faster
- Chain vaping — back-to-back puffs without letting the wick resaturate shortens coil life
- Priming — a coil that wasn’t properly primed before first use tends to burn out early
How to Change Your Coil (Quick Steps)
Changing a coil takes six steps and about five minutes: power off, remove the old coil, fit the new one hand-tight, prime the cotton, wait 5–10 minutes, then refill and test at low wattage. The process is nearly identical across pod systems and tank-based mods:
- Power off and open the tank. Turn off the device and remove the tank or pod from the base.
- Remove the old coil. Unscrew it counter-clockwise (or unclip it, on pod systems) and set it aside for disposal.
- Install the new coil. Screw or click the new coil into place hand-tight — don’t overtighten.
- Prime the coil. Add a drop of e-liquid onto each exposed wick port — usually 3–5 drops in total — before reassembling.
- Wait 5–10 minutes. This gives the wicking material time to fully absorb the e-liquid.
- Refill and test at low wattage. Reassemble the tank, fill it, and take your first few puffs at a lower wattage than usual to avoid a dry hit.
Shop Replacement Coils in Dubai — by Brand
Vape Shop AE stocks replacement coils and pods for the major brands, with delivery across Dubai and the rest of the UAE.
One distinction before you order: tank-style devices take a replaceable coil head, while most pod systems use a cartridge with the coil built in — so if your device is a Caliburn, XROS, Novo or Argus, you replace the whole pod, not a coil. Counts below are our live listings as of 10 September 2026:
- SMOK — 25 coil and pod listings (9 coil packs, 16 replacement pods) across the Nord, RPM, Novo and LP1/LP2 series, including the SMOK RPM 2 Coils in both DC and meshed resistances
- Vaporesso — 22 listings (7 coil packs, 15 replacement pods) across the GTX, GTi/iTank, GT/NRG, XROS and Luxe series, including the Vaporesso GTX Mesh Coil
- Uwell — 18 listings (4 coil packs, 14 replacement pods) across the Caliburn, Aeglos and Crown D lines, including the Uwell PA Replacement Coils in 0.3ohm and 0.8ohm
- Voopoo — 27 listings (7 coil packs, 20 replacement pods) across the PnP, TPP, ITO, Vinci and Argus lines
- GeekVape — 17 listings (7 coil packs, 10 replacement pods) across the Aegis B, M, Z, G, P and Zeus coil series and Wenax pods

FAQs
What happens if you keep vaping on a burnt coil?
A burnt coil produces a harsh, unpleasant taste and can leave a stale flavor in the tank that carries over even after refilling. It won’t normally damage the device, but it does ruin the vaping experience until replaced.
Can you reuse a coil after cleaning it?
Rinsing a coil in warm water can extend it slightly if the flavor has just gone stale, but a coil showing burnt taste, leaking, or visible charring should be replaced rather than cleaned.
Does a more expensive coil last longer?
Not necessarily. Coil lifespan depends more on wattage, juice type and usage frequency than price — a well-matched, correctly primed coil usually outlasts an expensive one that’s run outside its rated wattage range.
Do all vapes use the same coil?
No. Coils are device- and often model-specific — a SMOK RPM coil won’t fit a Uwell Caliburn, for example. Always match the coil to your exact device and pod or tank model.
How long should a new coil sit before vaping?
After priming with a few drops of e-liquid, let a new coil sit for 5–10 minutes before vaping so the wicking material has time to fully absorb the liquid. Vaping too soon is a common cause of a dry hit on a brand-new coil.
Why does my new coil burn out after a few days?
The usual causes of an early burn-out are four: the coil was not primed before the first puff, it is being run above its printed wattage range, the e-liquid is a sweet dessert-style flavor that gunks the wick, or you are chain vaping without giving the cotton time to resaturate. Fix those and a coil should reach its 1–2 week guidance.
How many puffs does a vape coil last?
Coils are not rated in puffs. Disposables carry a rated puff count from the manufacturer’s test cycle, but replaceable coils are given in days or weeks of use — typically 1–2 weeks of moderate use — and the practical signal to change one is a burnt taste or thinner vapor, not a counter.
